When we received this, the customer was anxious to see if the extent of the damage was beyond repair. We assessed the damage – besides the hole in the side, we noticed several issues:
- Panrail area broken away
- Lower parts of #7 & #8 cylinders broken away
- Main studs pulled right out of the aluminum
- Cam tunnel and priority main oil galley area was intact
- Step 1: Drilling, tapping & installing thread inserts for main studs
- Sleeves removed showing lower cylinder damage
- Lower cylinder after repair
- Rebuilding the pan rail area
- Pan rail area of opposite side
- Outside view of Repair area
- Machining pan rail area for main caps
- Boring new cylinder sleeve
- Completed Repair!
